Spring: March to May

Spring is a great time to visit Athens. The weather is mild, and the city is awash with color as the trees and flowers start to bloom. This is also a great time to visit the city’s many outdoor attractions, such as the National Garden and the Acropolis. The temperatures start to rise and the crowds aren’t as thick as in the summer months. The temperature ranges in the low to mid 15-20°C.

Summer: June to August

During the summer months, Athens can get quite hot, with temperatures often reaching into the 30-35°C. If you do decide to visit during the summer, be sure to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks in the shade. Despite the heat, summer is a popular time to visit Athens, as it is the best time to enjoy all the outdoor cafes, bars and restaurants that the city has to offer. Also, you can enjoy the many beaches close to Athens like Glyfada and Voula. The crowds tend to be high, but the atmosphere is lively and enjoyable.

Fall: September to November

Fall is an ideal time to visit Athens. The weather is mild, and the crowds are much thinner than in the summer. This is also a great time to visit some of the city’s more popular attractions, such as the Acropolis and the National Archaeological Museum, as the lines will be shorter. The fall season is also a time when many cultural events take place, such as music festivals and art exhibits. The temperature ranges from mid 15-20°C to mid 20-25°C.

Winter: December to February

Winter in Athens can be quite mild, but it can also be quite rainy. If you do decide to visit during the winter, be sure to bring a coat and an umbrella. Despite the rain, winter is a great time to visit Athens, as the city is less crowded and the prices are generally lower than in the summer. This is also a good time to visit some of the city’s indoor attractions, such as the National Museum of Contemporary Art. Keep in mind that the low temperature can drop to around 5-10°C, but the museums, restaurants, and bars are very cozy, and the city offers less tourists, making it a great spot for a more intimate experience.
